Bug description

For a long, long time now if you have a username with a period in it
[ such as is VERY common on threads ( @ally.celebrates@threads.net ) ie this issue should be considered a milestone to pleroma/pleroma#3271 ]
what happens when you mention someone with this username is that the first @ is ignored, and the rest is treated like an email address or something (a hyperlink linking to the domain name) ie instead of linking to the profile / acting like a fedi address

Reproduction steps

mention anyone with a period in their username

Bug seriousness

  • How annoying it is:

??

  • How often does it happen:

100%

  • How many people does it affect:

Whatever % of threads / other non-pleroma instances use periods in their username.
it prevents pleroma people from communicating with eachother entirely with people with the wrong username.

  • Is there a workaround for it:

Use other server like mastodon, which seems to handle it(??)

[??I could have sworn there was a bug report for this already but I haven't seen it in at least a year??]
