With no more corporate sponsorhip starting next month now is the best time to set up donations to the Pleroma project. The money collected could be used to pay to active contributors (and incentivise quality contributions that way), pay for project infrastructure (which is now provided for free by MFC, but who knows what will happen to that) and for setting up a bug bountry programme to make Pleroma more secure.

I think the best platform to use for this purpose is OpenCollective. It is open source, designed for transparency and multi-contributor usage and has no lock-in (all data is exportable and we can switch between different fiscal hosts/create our own if the fees or rules no longer are acceptable for us). I suggest reading the documentation to understand how it works and if everyone agrees with using OpenCollective, we can proceed to choosing a fiscal host (Open Source collective vs Open Collective Europe).

I'm definitely for the idea, no real objections for the systems chosen. anyone actually receiving the donations will have to do their own homework on how the taxing and legal aspects work in their country of course

Well it seems like https://opencollective.com/fiscal-hosting would actually manage the tax/banking part of it, which I guess would be better given our rather organic structure, and there is a Brussels based one which I think would be the best for us.

btw SPI is another structure (US-based though) which does similar things and has been used for a lot of years by both small and gigantic projects like distros.

We now have https://opencollective.com/pleroma-euro and https://liberapay.com/pleroma-euro

My original plan was to make an announcment about it with new release but that's taking its time, might make an announcement earlier
