Actually marketing the 1.1 release
When we cut the 1.0 release, it was pretty clear that we weren't quite ready to start marketing the project to the general public. So we had a couple of blog posts about it and that was it.
But 1.1 is a different story. In my opinion, 1.1 is actually going to be a fairly solid release in terms of general public using and adopting Pleroma. At least, solid enough that we should start talking about outreach.
There are two domains that exist: pleroma.social and pleroma.com (the latter of which is being used for the "roma" apps that were supposed to be optimized clients for Pleroma instances -- how that initiative is playing out isn't really on topic for this issue, we'll discuss it later).
I believe there is value in having a website for the organization itself, but I also believe that we need to build a proper landing page like Mastodon have.
Most of the friction we have right now in terms of onboarding have to do with the fact that it's not really so easy to just jump in and get started. Instead, you are presented with some links to some software, and while we would ideally like everyone to operate their own node, in practice most people just want to pick a pre-existing node and run with it.
And so, I think that we need a landing page that helps people find not just the software, but instances to join as well. If we have a landing page, then it's much easier to do the other outreach tasks we need to do, like dealing with the press.
We are roughly 2 weeks out from shipping, so I think we have plenty of time to bang this together.
My proposal would be to leverage pleroma.com for this -- the combination of a good lander and the "roma" apps initiative can mesh well together. It's an easy enough story to sell.
