[Question] Is it possible to "move" account from mastodon to pleroma?

Hello.

Mastodon allows moving accounts from one instance to another (mastodon) instance. Is it possible to move my mastodon account to another instance running pleroma the same way, so my followers know, I have moved? Or is this "instance hopping" very mastodon specific?

Since 2.4 there is support for moving accounts to Pleroma (there is API for setting aliases).

With pleroma!3524 (merged) it's possible to initiate move from Pleroma.

Sorry for asking maybe stupid questions, but I can't find any of the endpoints in the pleroma settings of my account. I see import / export settings but nothing relating moving accounts from one to another instance. Having installed last public release 2.4.3. Did it come later?

2.4.3 doesn't include frontend ui for adding an alias. You need to use PATCH /api/v1/accounts/update_credentials for that.

Should be at the bottom of the Security tab, not sure if it was there in 2.4.x

What alias would best expected from Mastodon? I set all of these in my pleroma instance as aliases but Mastodon complains that the account is not an alias.

Shouldn't it be https://mastodon.gamedev.place/users/Lambdanaut if Lambdanaut is my mastodon username?

Your problem may be related to mastodon caching something in the user profile

Wow that's frustrating. I think that you're right, since I can take down my Pleroma instance and mastodon will still complain that it's not an alias, which is a different error for accounts that it hasn't cached. (it'll say it can't find them).

Thanks for the helpful debugging! I guess I wait until the cache invalidates.

BTW this feature is why I'm finally coming back to pleroma. Tysm.

I tried it now. I have pleroma 2.4.4 with Soapbox 3.0.0 as UI. At least Soapbox gives you the "Account Alias" configuration (I don't know if the Pleroma UI does already). I successfully moved one of my mastodon accounts to my pleroma account. It is very easy and works like a charm immediately:

• add username@domain.social into that "Account Alias" input at the bottom of the settings page
• go to your mastodon account and start the account moving process to your pleroma account

In my case it worked immediately. The mastodon account is grayed out and marked as moved to my pleroma account. I am not sure if all followers were moved successfully, as the mastodon account had only few who are following my pleroma account anyways.
