make it easy to host an instance with ephemeral content (automatic pruning)
I'd like to host an instance that continuously tries to undo my presence after a specified number of actions. For example, when I make my 31st post, my 1st post is deleted. When I make my 32nd post, my 2nd post is deleted. When I make my 31st like, my 1st like is deleted. I understand that other instances may not obey the requests. "Pinned" posts would still count toward the total, but would be exempt from automatic deletion.
I'm interested in being able to set this feature for all users instance-wide as an admin, or at least setting a maximum limit.
Other users might be interested in turning on this feature just for their own account on an otherwise conventionally functioning instance.
I think this is important because people grow and change, and our digital tools should reflect that reality.
This feature combined with !1181 (merged) could also further reduce hosting requirements with regard to disk space.
The down side is that it could create a false sense of security regarding privacy, but I think the benefits would outweigh the risks.
An alternative implementation would delete actions after a specified period of time has passed. I prefer expiration after a specified number of actions so that less active users would always have some content visible.
